The following instructions describe the stages of the thesis process at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, from the choice of the topic to the publications of the thesis. The related forms and templates are also enclosed.

Information Search

Systematic and efficient data acquisition is an essential part of the thesis process. The theoretical background of the thesis is built on the existing knowledge on the topic, such as studies, reports and other documents. Successful data acquisition requires a good understanding of the source material and databases as well as skilful use of good, accurate key words when searching for information. Familiarise yourself with the data acquisition processes when starting your thesis process at the latest, and do not forget source criticism when conducting your research.

Karelia UAS library has made this guide to help you with different levels of information search problems. In the guide, library presents the issues that affect the success of information searches. There are also tips how to find the best possible sources for your own information needs, whether it is a study course, essay or a thesis.

Workshops and personal guidance

You can practice information retrieval on workshops, organised by Karelia UAS’s Library.  For information on the dates and times of the workshops, please see the Karelia UAS Library website 

You can book a personal guidance time from Microsoft Bookings calendar. Login to service with your Karelia UAS email and password. The time reserved for guidance is 45 minutes. The library staff guides you for example with: the search terms; database and search engine use; finding eBooks and other literacy from Karelia-Finna etc.
