Thesis Instructions at Karelia University of Applied Sciences : Thesis Plan

The following instructions describe the stages of the thesis process at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, from the choice of the topic to the publications of the thesis. The related forms and templates are also enclosed.

Thesis Plan

When your thesis supervisor has approved your literature review, you can start drafting your thesis plan. You will present your plan as instructed by your own programme. The purpose of the presentation is to assess the feasibility of the plan and to find points for development or specification.

When the plan has been approved, you can move to the implementation phase. In the research-based thesis, it means that you collect your data, for example, through surveys, interviews, observation or from literary sources. In the practice-based thesis, the implementation phase includes the production and systematic description of the stages of the implementation. If there is a need to complement your knowledge base, you must do it before you start collecting the data or working on the production.

Implementing the Plan

  •    Data collection (surveys, interviews, observation and other methods)
  •    Product or outcome (business plan, modelling, software, film and other outputs)
  •    Documenting the work stages
    • Diary, interview transcriptions, photos, recordings, data analyses and other documentation
  •   Frequent communication with the thesis supervisors and group tutorials according to the instructions of the programme
  •   Communication with the representative of the commissioning company
  •   Making use of the writing workshops organised by language teachers (currently in Finnish only).
