The following instructions describe the stages of the thesis process at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, from the choice of the topic to the publications of the thesis. The related forms and templates are also enclosed.

Where Can I Get the Thesis Commission?

Most of the theses at universities of applied sciences are commissioned assignments. You can receive a commission for your thesis, for example, from the workplace where you have conducted your internship or had a summer job. You can also enquire about possible assignments from your teachers or from the projects administered by Karelia UAS. You can make use of your own contacts and networks, as well as employment and recruitment services.

During your studies you have accumulated many types of competences which can benefit industries and business life. Before you contact a potential organisation, consider what kind of skills and knowledge you can offer. What is meaningful and relevant for the commissioning organisation? What type of competences can benefit the organisation in practice?

Thesis Commission Agreement

If your thesis is commissioned, you, the commissioning organisation and the university of applied sciences will sign a written agreement. The agreement determines the obligations and responsibilities of each signing party. The agreement should include a clause on immaterial rights whenever applicable.

If you want to withdraw from the agreement, you must notify all parties in writing. After the agreement is annulled you are obliged to return or destroy all materials that you have received from the commissioning organisation.

NB! The commission agreement is not included as an appendix to the thesis report.
