Thesis Instructions at Karelia University of Applied Sciences : Maturity Test

The following instructions describe the stages of the thesis process at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, from the choice of the topic to the publications of the thesis. The related forms and templates are also enclosed.

Maturity Test

Once your thesis has been approved of and is ready to be presented at the results seminar, it is time to take the maturity test. The maturity test is a written exam that needs to follow the formal conventions of academic writing and showcases your expertise in the topic of your thesis. The maturity test is an essay task that will be written according to the instructions of the degree programme. If you have transferred from abroad or have for some other reason studied using some other language, the Head of Education will determine the language of the maturity exam. The maturity examinations will be organised by the degree programmes.

For the maturity test, the thesis supervisor will give you three topics to choose from. The exam will be assessed by your thesis supervisor, and if necessary, the language will be assessed by a language teacher. Both the content and the language of the maturity exam will be graded pass/fail.  When the maturity exam is accepted (pass) and the thesis has been submitted for evaluation, the reporting part of the thesis will be considered completed.

NB! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the maturity exam of Karelia UAS' degrees is replaced by a media release, which presents the main results or output of the thesis. The instructions for the media release can be found below.
