Search and Find - Information Searcher's Journey

Introduction to the Guide

Why this guide has been made?

We have made this guide to help you with different levels of information search problems. In our guide, we present the issues that affect the success of information searches. We also give you tips how to find the best possible sources for your own need for information, whether it is a study course essay or a thesis.

With this guide, you will learn

  • what kind of process is information searching
  • how to plan your searches and find the right keywords
  • where to search and find information for your purposes
  • how to evaluate the search results
  • how to use your references so that you will not violate copyrights

You should go through the guide point by point in order. If the searching of scientific information (keywords, databases, evaluating) is already familiar to you, you can read only the parts you need.

The editors of this guide are Noora Kontturi, Jaana Rummukainen, Leena Väyrynen, Pekka Malvela and Ari Koskela.
